A milestone of sorts happened today! Grace missed the bus for Kindergarten for the first time (on day 3, mind you....). She was going to the bathroom this morning, and somehow or another managed to fall off the toilet and bang her head on the bathtub. Only Grace.......Well, OK, only Grace or her mother could do that!
So we iced her down, and she calmed down, but in the meantime she'd missed the bus, so I had to drive her to school. The kids' school was built in 1961 or 62 and Chapel Hill has grown somewhat in the past 40 years. The school is bordered on two sides by roads (both fairly major), on one side by an apartement complex that's been there at least for the past 20 years, and on the 4th side by a creek, so there's no room for expansion. The parking lot and driveway I'm sure were perfectly fine in the '60s, but they're a little cozy these days.
The result of all this is that the few times we've had to drive the kids, we don't under ANY circumstances park and walk them in. I was a little worried, though, since Grace had already had one trauma today, and since this is only her third day of school. When we got to school, though, she got herself out of the car, popped her backpack on her back, and off she went, just like a big kid!
I, of course, got a lump in my throat over it! ;)
