The Sound of Silence

Well, my lovely little car is now a QUIETER lovely little car. The Alternator they thought needed replacing came in about 9:30 this morning, and by 10 I had the car at the mechanics (thanks to Kathy who's been chauffeuring me around hither and yon this week!).

As it turns out, when they got the alternator out, it spun freely and easily on it's bearings, and made no noise whatsoever. Being good mechanics, they then looked for a different reason for the hideous loud noise, and discovered a water pump that needed replacing. Apparently the water pump lives underneath the alternator, hence the initial diagnosis.

I was happy, because the water pump was about 100 bucks or so cheaper than the alternator, so rather than costing me $1000 (I also needed spark plugs and steering fluid), it cost me about 850. Yay!!!!!

And now that it's fixed, everything seems so......quiet!
