Peter's First Basketball Game

Peter's Pee-Wee league team had their first basketball game on Saturday. It was a hard fought game, but unfortunately they wound up on the losing end of things. The final score was 20-17.

Peter had an outstanding first quarter from a defensive perspective. Of course, as a born-and-bred Carolina fan, I'm convinced that defense wins games, if you can play defense then the offense will come eventually, and only the best and smartest players ever really "get" defense, so I was ecstatic! He caused a 5-second call against the other team, and got several good rebounds.

In the third quarter, Peter was moved to point guard. He had a little trouble getting used to it, but by the end of the quarter was getting in his rhythm, and made a couple of nice plays that led to scores.

He sat out most of the final quarter, but the coach put him back in in the final few minutes. Unfortunately, even with some tough defense and lots of shot attempts, his team still came up short.

Peter's team, the Timberwolves, has five returning players from last year. It's really amazing how much they've all grown in a year, and how well they're playing together already. Last year it took awhile for the boys to mesh as a team; this year they were scrimmaging during their first practice, and have gone on from there. We're looking forward to a fun season of basketball!
