Life with Grace is fun. She tickles me, I think because she is at the same time, both very similar to me and very, very different. For example, she's become a huge tomboy in recent years, but still loves to get dressed up in very "girly" outfits. The former is very like me; the latter I didn't figure out until I got older!
But part of what cracks me up about Grace is her own exuberant personality. She knows what she likes, and she likes it with all her heart and soul.
One of the things she likes is gummy candy, and another is anything with a high gross-out factor. For that reason, she's been having a blast with our leftover Halloween candy. For those of you who haven't bought Halloween candy lately, Gummy Body Parts are very big these days. Ears, eyes, noses, and brains are all available in highly sweetened flavors that do NOT exist in nature!
So tonight Kathy came over for dinner, and afterwards we were digging through the leftover candy. In a sense Kathy and Grace were having a conversation about what kind of candy G wanted, but it was pretty one-sided, because Kathy was mainly laughing. Grace's side of it was something like this:
"Oooh, a nose! I love noses. Oh, and ears too, I'll take the ears. Actually, any body parts, just give them to me, I'm the only one who likes body parts. I really wanted a brain, but I can't find it." [luckily Peter kept quiet at this point] At this point Mom finds the brain. "SWEET! A brain!!!!"
And on it went. Within about 5 minutes, she had a pile of body parts, and was a happy camper.
Kathy was still laughing.
