I love Christmas! And I love sharing traditions, and creating new ones, with my kids. I realized tonight that there are certain things that my kids and I do that are starting to become "our" traditions.
Peter and I had been on a school trip all day; I got back to the school at 4:30, but his bus didn't get back until 5:30 (and no, I don't drive THAT fast. The other bus had engine trouble, and the bus Peter was riding on stayed to make sure the kids on the broken bus could get alternate transportation).
Peter and his friend Blake were STARVING, so I took the kids to get dinner, then dropped Blake off with his Dad. Initially Peter, Grace and I were going to get our Christmas Tree tonight, but we realized after dropping Blake off that we were all really tired. We decided instead to take the scenic route home, looking at Christmas lights on the way (a surprising number are up!).
Luckily, I had put some Christmas CDs in the car, so we had the appropriate music. My kids aren't much for Mannheim Steamroller or The Chieftains, so we decided on A Rock And Roll Christmas. The unanimous favorite song? Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses.
Others may disagree, but to me nothing says Christmas like hearing my kids sing along to the Waitresses!
(Merry Christmas! Merrys Christmas! Couldn't miss this one this year)
